Melina meaning and name origin
Melina is a common female name in Greece. It is a name associated with the Greek word “meli” which means honey
Origin of name
Although a lovely name, Melina’s origins are not exactly clear. It is said that the vast majority of women called Melina consider their name a mixture of names Maria and Eleni.
Some other women adopt the name Melina, as a diminutive of the name Soumela, or Melitini.  If the name does come from the combination of name Maria and Eleni, its nameday is celebrated on September 16th, while in any other case, it follows the nameday of the original name.

Nameday: 16th of September & 29th of October
Melina is cute and nice; always good with others, ready to help them in any problem, without asking for something back. It is said that Melina will help you in anything you need, but you should never consider Melina as someone who serves you

Χρόνια πολλά/Happy name day to all the Melina's and of course a big donkey kiss for our beautiful girl

Melina being rescued in 2009...Melina grazing...so much food...where do I begin?!Agia Marina Rescue
Beautiful Melina is one of our residents a beautiful big girl who has worked very hard in her life ploughing fields, carrying heavy sacks of olives and firewood, not to mention a very heavy owner with a big cane. Melina came to Agia Marina Donkey Rescue three years ago10/2011 : The donkeys don't seem to mind the rain too much, especially when it's still warm, they can go inside their stable & shelter but they prefer to stand in the rain like Melina & Anthoula here munching on hay.
10/2011: Yesterday we think she suffer a stroke and has all the signs, unsociable (more than normally) she has never made a special friend like the other donkeys here but prefers to be alone, difficulty in chewing hay and the classic sign, tongue hanging out and drooling. She's on soft food now...

Today we lost our beautiful Melina, our gentle giant who came to us in 2008 after many years of hard work.
Melina was a loner, she never made a special friend like most of our donkeys do but prefered to be on her own.
Each...winter she suffered from severe arthritis, we managed to keep her as painfree as possible with our love, medication and a warm dry environment.
After a difficult week this morning Melina seemed better but would not eat much of her breakfast, she left it untouched and went to lie in the sun then died peacefuly early this afternoon.
The herd have all been to say their goodbyes to Melina, she will be buried tomorrow under an olive tree at the back of our field with our animals who have crossed over the rainbow bridge
